HOUSTON – Celebrating its 25th year of caring for patients with traumatic brain injuries across the country, Nexus Health Systems announces the appointment of nationally-renowned neuropsychiatrist Dr. David Williamson as Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Williamson, who trained at the University of Edinburgh, Rockefeller University, John Hopkins University and the University of London, brings to the health care system 30 years of experience as a physician working with patients with behavioral, cognitive and emotional disorders related to traumatic brain injuries.

Nexus Health Systems is a national leader in neurorehabilitation for patients with acquired brain injuries and behavioral and emotional disturbances. Nexus delivers high quality services through its continuum of care across five locations, from a long-term acute care hospital with an ICU and step down level of care, to a long-term residential rehabilitation program on a 26-acre campus just north of Houston in Conroe, Texas, and two pediatric brain injury programs in Houston and Orange, CA.

“We are excited to have Dr. Williamson join our leadership team,” said Erin Cassidy, Nexus Health Systems President. “He is an ideal clinical leader who will be an asset to our hospital, community and patients and we continue to grow and expand our neurorehabilitation services.” Prior to joining Nexus, Dr. Williamson was responsible for the design and operation of the Inpatient Neuropsychiatry/Traumatic Brain Injury Program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center- the only inpatient neurobehavioral TBI unit in the U.S. military health care system.

Dr. Williamson is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is also one of the few physicians in the country certified in both Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry and Brain Injury Medicine. He has been the recipient of numerous awards for his work in neuromedicine including Physician of the Year by the National Council for Behavioral Health in 2016. His program at Walter Reed was recognized with the Community Heroes Award from the Military Officers Association of America in 2015.

“It is an honor to follow the legacy of Dr. John W. Cassidy who founded Nexus to provide care to patients with an acquired brain injury or related disorder,” said Williamson. “This physician-led approach to medicine and clinical excellence is what sets Nexus apart in the world of rehabilitation.”
